This 1-day course is suitable for beginners with little or no basket-making experience. A reasonable amount of hand strength is required.
During the one-day course, you will learn how to create a rush door stop. Using a handful of different techniques the rush is tightly woven around a stone large enough to be used as a doorstop, or as a decorative rush sculpture. The course is suitable for beginners or those who have some weaving experience. Note that the work is done mainly from a standing position.
Feel free to bring your own stone, but do bear in mind that it would take more than a day to cover a large rock! There will be a choice of stones available.

Course Tutor: Hannah Kelly
Hannah is a rush weaver based in North Hertfordshire. Following her studies in Ceramic and Textile design she trained as a rush matter - this inspired her to take the traditional techniques learnt and apply them in a contemporary way. She is eager to teach and share her passion and encourage others to explore this heritage craft.
