Overview

This two-day course blends tradition with modern aesthetics, guiding you through the process of constructing a basket with an asymmetric form. You will learn to create a solid base, build up the sides using classic weaves, and incorporate a handle and border to complete your piece. By the end, you will have a functional and contemporary basket, along with the skills to experiment further.


Steps & Techniques

  • Constructing a sturdy English basket base

  • Selecting and joining willow weavers

  • Weaving the sides using waling and pairing methods

  • Shaping the basket for an asymmetric, eye-catching design

  • Adding a border and handle for a polished finish

  • Perfecting the final details





Tutor - Lisa Dear

Lisa found basketmaking many moons ago and has been largely self taught.She brings together together a training in fine art,a passion for being in nature and a fascination for the sustainable, tactile and durable nature of willow. 


She divides her time in East Sussex between working with trees,making and selling her basketry and teaching.Always scouting for interesting natural materials along the way.
